Mobile Internet, the next frontier for tariff wars
After hitting rock bottom by offering voice calls at one paise per second and sometimes even lower, carriers in India are now looking at mobile Internet tariffs as the next frontier for tariff wars. It all started with Aircel, which launched unlimited GPRS access for Rs 98/month. Tata DoCoMo followed suit and introduced a similar plan for Rs 95 per month, where users can avail of 200 MB per month during peak hours and up to 4 GB a month at night. And news is trickling in that Airtel, is now offering unlimited Internet at Rs 98 per month.
