• HTC announces its first dumbphone and calls it Smart

HTC has announced today its first-ever non-smartphone OS phone and has ironically chosen to call it Smart. The 2.8 inch touchscreen device is powered by Qualcomm’s Brew Mobile Platform rather than Android or Windows Mobile – HTC’s usual OS of choice.

The Smart, which will be launched in Asian and European markets soon, will typically compete with Samsung Corby-like phones – those that have touchscreens and widget-based apps. Such phones retail at under Rs 10K (sub-$200) and have proven to be quite popular in markets like India.

For those keen to find out the specs, the Smart runs on a 300 MHz processor with a 256 MB ROM/RAM configuration. It is 3G-capable and has a 3.0 MP shooter.
