• Motorola Droid announced as Milestone in Europe

We had first told you about the Milestone almost two months ago, when Motorola had trademarked the name. Today, we officially know what it is – the GSM version of the saucy Droid, which goes to sale in the US later this week.

While the design and specs remain the same (barring GSM connectivity instead of CDMA), there are a few subtle changes in the GSM version. The Milestone will support multi-touch in the browser and media gallery (like the HTC Hero), which surprisingly is missing in the Droid. And then comes disappointment – no turn-by-turn navigation on Google Maps. It seems that Google is not yet ready with the feature that is supposed to kill strand-alone consumer GPS devices for markets outside the US. Instead, Motorola is pre-installing Moto Nav, which is free to use for the first two months and later consumers are expected to cough up some dough.

Well, we are keeping our fingers crossed that by the time the Milestone washes up on Indian shores Google would have released an upgrade that supports turn-by-turn navigation.
