Verizon’s Blackberry Tour. You can take it on a global journey
We received a Blackberry Tour earlier today. The device is an improvement over the Blackberry Bold that is available on AT&T’s network. The Tour is a 3G “world” phone that should work in 175 countries. Verizon stores will start selling the device on July 12th for $199.99 – after a mail in rebate with a new two year contract.
Here is our early impression:
- Excellent form factor
- Speedy internet access. The Tour loaded websites faster than my iPhone and Blackberry Bold
- The phone can be tethered to a PC and used as a wireless modem for PCs thereby saving consumers expense of a dedicated wireless modem
- The 3.2 megapixel camera is impressive
- Price is competitive given that previous 3G Blackberry’s at launch were sold for $299 with a two year contract
I was surprised that I had to download the “Blackberry App World” application on the phone and the phone did not ship with the App world icon.
Interestingly, Verizon has reduced the price the Blackberry Storm to $149 after a $70 rebate.
Although we do not anticipate massive lines for the Tour, we will not be surprised if the Tour becomes the number one selling Blackberry at not only Verizon but also globally.
