• What HTC did not announce at the Magic launch in India

With HTC launching the Magic in India earlier today on Airtel, many of you have been pinging us for clarifications. To answer all your queries, we have compiled a FAQ that should answer all that you need to know about the arrangement.

For starters, let’s recap today’s announcement:

    1. The Magic is the second Android phone from HTC, the first being the G1. However, it is the first Android phone to be launched in India by any handset vendor.

    2. The device will available for Rs 29,900 across major Indian cities in the coming days.

    3. HTC has tied up with Airtel to provide Magic in the country, If you buy it from Airtel, you will get 100 MB of free data transfer every month for the first six months.

However, there is more than what currently meets the eye.

Q: Is the Magic locked to Airtel?

    A:
No, While HTC has tied up with Airtel, the arrangement is limited to the offers that Airtel will provide to its subscribers. The Magic will be available unlocked and you can use it on any carrier.

Q: But I will get all Google apps, right?

    A:
Wrong! This version does not have the ‘with Google’ branding. This means there is no Android Market or Google’s own app suite. However, users will be able to download apps for Android that are available outside the Android Market application store.

Q: So will I get any additional apps?

    A:
At the moment, we could see QuickOffice’s office suite pre-installed on the device. HTC has also added some tweaks of its own like a smart dialer.

Do let us know if you have any more questions. We’d love to answer them for you.
