Swan Telecom is now Etisalat DB Telecom
1Swan Telecom, which has been awarded a license to operate a cellular network in 15 circles of India, has been renamed to Etisalat DB Telecom Pvt Ltd. The entity is a joint venture between DB Reality and Etisalat.
There are two possible reasons for this rebranding. First, Swan Telecom had been embroiled in the ‘spectrum scam’, where a few carriers cried foul over the method of allocating spectrum to new carriers.
Second, (and the one we believe is more likely to be the reason) the rebranding would put forth the new carrier as an Etisalat entity, a brand name which has a higher recall than Swan. The new carrier will be more readily accepted as it is a major player in the Middle East Asia region, where Indians form a major chunk of the workforce.
