Samsung to ‘unpack’ Omnia II GT i8000 on June 15?
With the iPhone 3GS announcement out of the way, we can concentrate again on new product leaks leading to CommunicAsia in Singapore from June 16.
According to one mobil.it, Samsung is prepping the successor to its Omnia in the form of Omnia II (pictured here). This would essentially be the GT i8000, that we had first unearthed in February just before the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
While we just knew that it would rock Windows Mobile 6.1, now we have complete specifications of the phone and can safely say that it would be the Windows Mobile equivalent of the Omnia HD, which runs on the Symbian Foundation OS.
The specs include:
HSPA 2100 7.2 Mbps
Wi-Fi, DLNA
A-GPS
3.7 inch, 16 million colours AMOLED display 480×800 pixels
8.1 MP camera with dual power LED
150 MB internal memory, supports up to 32 GB microSD card
118×59.6×11.9 mm
Qualcomm MSM6290 processor
We believe that Samsung would introduce both the Omnia HD and the Omnia II around the same time in the market and offer a choice of operating system to consumers. It’d be rather interesting to see which one consumers prefer. In all likelihood, the Omnia II will be upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.5 later this year, which, in our opinion, gives it an edge over the Omnia HD.
