Ride into the Danger Zone: Top Gun zooms into the App Store

The iPhone gaming library continues to expand. The latest title to come zooming into the App Store is Top Gun, a game based on the eighties’ cult film that made Tom Cruise a hero. The game places players at the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School, where instructors Maverick and Iceman will help them compete to become the next Top Gun. Players can take control of a F-22 Raptor or a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, shoot down MiGs and dodge incoming air-to-air and surface-to-air missiles, all while navigating intricate environments and weaving in and out of the Danger Zone.
“Over twenty years after its debut, Top Gun remains one of the most popular, iconic movies of all time,†said John Kavanagh, senior vice president, Video Games of Paramount Digital Entertainment. “This unique Top Gun app puts that thrilling cinematic experience at your fingertips. Using the accelerometer and innovative Multi-Touch user interface in iPhone and iPod touch allowed us to create epic aerial battles and hugely entertaining gameplay that’s sure to bring out the Maverick in all of us.â€
The first person jet shooter (FPJS, geddit?) game features ten missions in environment that range from oceans to deserts to urban centers. Yes, there is even some night flying thrown in. Players can take out enemies by locking-on and firing their missiles, while aerial and ground-based obstacles create multiple Danger Zones to navigate. And while there’s no mention in the release about Mr Cruise’s likeness being around, the game will feature iconic songs from the Top Gun movie soundtrack. All this for an introductory launch price of only £1.19.
You guessed it, we are off to get our wings!
