RIM’s BlackBerry App World goes live
BlackBerry App World, RIM’s online application store for BlackBerry devices has gone live. However, the store is currently available only in the US, the UK and Canada. Unlike Apple’s App Store, users will require a Pay Pal account to buy apps from the store.
App World will work on BlackBerry devices running on version 4.2 or higher that have trackballs (it works on Storm as well).
The store already has lots of IM clients (dedicated Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Live Messenger), social networking apps from MySpace and Facebook as well as an MTV app for its VH1 channel. Of course, there are apps for business as well but the writing on the wall is clear — RIM wants to percolate down to young, casual users with its new, hippy image. Readers from countries where App World is available can click here to download the software.
