Splitsville ahead for Moto: Sanjay Jha to head mobile devices unit
Finally things seem to be coming back on track for Motorola. After breaking even in the second quarter, despite widening losses in the mobile devices unit, the company has locked down on the person who it thinks will save their dying mobile device biz. Motorola has roped in Sanjay Jha, who served as the COO of Qualcomm before assuming the charge of co-CEO of Motorola and CEO of Motorola’s mobile devices unit. Greg Brown, now becomes the co-CEO of Motorola along with Jha and will head the company’s Broadband Mobility Solutions business.
Having chosen the candidate who will either steer the mobile devices unit back to green or oversee the sale of the unit, Motorola is now heading towards formally splitting the company into two separate entities. However, these are still early days as the mobile devices unit is burining up over 300 million dollars a quarter and is not ready to stand on its own. All we can do at the moment is wait and watch if Jha can bring Moto back to its Razr days.
