Videocon may bid for Motorola’s handset biz
Videocon Group, one of India’s largest consumer electronics group, is planning to bid for Motorola’s ailing mobile devices unit.Â
According to news reports, Videocon Group Chairman, Venugopal Dhoot said “The group, based in Aurangabad, is in the initial stages of evaluating a bid. We are in consumer durables in retail and we also have mobile-phone licenses in India. What we need now is a cellular phone supplier company so that we can complete the full chain.â€
According to Merrill Lynch & Co, Motorola’s handset business accounts for $3.8 billion which is more than double the market value of Videocon Industries Ltd.
