• BlackBerry fiasco might hit other e-mail players as well

The confusion surrounding BlackBerry services in India and the issue of national security has made other players to don the thinking cap. Motorola’s Good Technology Group, which announced the official launch of its Good Mobile Messaging 5.0 suite for enterprises in India, might have to face similar hurdles.

“Our solution is secure and is FIPS certified. Regulatory issues are currently being discussed internally,” said Neil Hooper, vice president, global sales, Motorola Good Technology Group. FIPS or the Federal Information Processing Standards deals with a range of computer system components including data transmission and are used by the US government.

The government has ‘security-related issues’ with BlackBerry services as its agencies are not able to intercept e-mails sent by BlackBerry subscribers. The Department of Telecom has given carriers offering BlackBerry services on their network a 15-day deadline to sort the issue and enable government security agencies to intercept these e-mails.
