Motorola to lay off design staff at Birmingham facility
The Register reports that Motorola is set to reduce its Birmingham-based Design Centre by half. The Design Centre, itself, will be shut and the company is looking into alternatives like relocation, redeployment, flexible working/home working or the opportunity of a ‘service site’, The Centre has 121 employees at the moment.
Motorola has been struggling to keep its Mobile Device business out of the red. The company’s fourth quarter sales were 38 percent lower than the figures for the same quarter in 2006. A couple of weeks ago, Motorola’s mobile device business head, Stu Reed had quit the company. Last week, there were reports that Motorola had given marching orders to two senior executives looking after the EMEA region.
