Google shifts Gears, heads over to WiMo
Nope, Google is not giving up on Android for Windows Mobile. Rather, it has just announced the availability of Google Gears for devices running Internet Explorer on Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC and Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional editions. With Google Gears, you can access information and use applications even when there is poor or no network connectivity. In other words, it allows you to access information even when you are in the offline mode.
At the moment, two applications, Zoho (a suite of online services that include a word processor, spreadsheets, presentations to name a few) and Buxfer (a web-based personal finance application) are available for users to download. Google promises to bring Gears to other operating systems and web browsers in the coming days, which we believe would include S60 and Opera respectively. And of course, handsets running Android will certainly have this feature.
